I hope future expansions utilize more event cards though as I think it could become quite inventive. Only thing wrong is the fact that the box itself was bent up. I like this expansion a lot! For those unfamiliar with Ascension at all, the game is a fantastically fun deck-building game that moves quickly and is easy to learn. Even with a short play time you are still able to see a strategy emerge from your constructed deck fairly quickly which is gratifying.There are some interesting strategies and combos with certain cards, but they are not required.
Also, you don’t need the original to play with this set, so if you haven’t gotten the original, I highly recommend starting here instead.Standalone or Expansion? The cards are worth varying amounts of points and at the end of the game the person with the most points wins.
Storm of Souls is a stand-alone expansion, with its own set of basic cards so you don't need the base set to play it. On the plus side, it makes you feel as if you can improve your position with better gameplay on a turn by turn basis by cleverly using the events and trophies.
